EDS/PR Week
Jeff’s work as vice president of Global Communications at EDS was featured in the following PR Week article, which detailed his philosophy and the work of his team.
Launching a Brand from Scratch
When John took over corporate marketing for EDS’ Product Lifecycle Management, or PLM, software division in 2003, the business was called EDS PLM Solutions. The next year, EDS sold the business to a private equity consortium of Bain Capital, Warburg Pincus and Silver Lake. At $2.05 billion, the sale represented the largest-ever private equity acquisition of a technology business.
The sale resulted in John leading the charge to change the name of the business to reflect its new status as an independent company. The result was UGS, a soft acronym for Unigraphics, one of the company’s signature solutions. John and his team led the rollout of the new brand, including building a new web site, new marketing assets and an outbound communications program. Three years later, the private equity consortium sold UGS to Siemens for $3.65 billion. As a result, the name of the business changed again – this time to Siemens PLM Software. Once again John’s team led the change management process for the name change across all marketing assets. The business goes to market today as Siemens Digital Industries Software.
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
Working as a freelance writer for a leading contact/call center company, Working Solutions, Jeff wrote more than two dozen profiles of contact center agents and clients. One of these profiles detailed how St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital provided care for a contact center agent's child, as well as highlighting St. Jude's impact on the health care system and individuals as a whole.
Unisys Security Index™
Unisys launched the Unisys Security Index – the only regular snapshot of security concerns conducted globally – in 2007 to provide an ongoing, statistically robust measure of concern about security. The index covered changing consumer attitudes over time across eight areas of security in four categories: national security and disaster/epidemic in the National Security category; bankcard fraud and financial obligations in the Financial Security category; viruses/hacking and online transactions in the Internet Security category; and identity theft and personal safety in the Personal Security category.
John and his team led the index from 2017 to 2021, ranging from authoring the survey to managing the outside vendor that fielded the survey to writing the report summarizing the findings’ results and takeaways. The effort consistently generated high-level media coverage around the world, contributing directly to Unisys’ reputation as a leader in global security.
